US military pullout from #Qatar indicates instability in #Washington
2019-10-03
[TWITTER] It could also be a good excuse to get the troops out of Qatar without publicly slapping the country in the face. Then just quietly put off going back to the Home of the Moslem Brüderbünd until two or three weeks after the Last Trumpet sounds.

Might be safe with 'on base' housing. Otherwise, not so much.

#8  You say: "More and more, one gets the feeling that the only competent, reasonably honest and at least minimally well-managed large institution in this country is our military." If that is so, why was the US in Qatar in the first place. The ruling al=Thani family has been for decades a major funder of the Muslim Brotherhood. Nonetheless, despite this knowledge, first the military and then the Clinton Foundation, Brookings and others NGOs have screwed around in Qatar.

#6  Did the US Navy draw down its shore facilities and HQs in Qatar? I knew a guy that was a Navy staff officer in Qatar for large chunks of the WOT. He was a reservist and kept getting (voluntarily) reactivated.

#4  Yes, wise.

#3  A smaller HQ footprint at forward base Qatar will enable a surge from CONUS back to Qatar as the need arises, or elsewhere. Same strategy was employed by ARCENT (Army Central Command) at Camp Doha, Kuwait in the late 1990's.

Economy of force as it were. A wise move.

#2  Good catch. I'm sure the Persians have figured this out, and can grasp the implications. PressTV is just lying as usual.

#1  An Air Force HQ is moving from Qatar to Shaw AFB (in SC). The huge Al-Udeid Air Base is still there and operational. This will make it easier to wage war against Iran since the Air HQ will no longer have to be protected against attack.
