| #8 a gut gebentsht yor That’s Yiddish, that is! No doubt quite a few here understood immediately what you said, dear European Conservative. But I had only a ten week course in the language when I was in high school. Sadly, I was several years into German and Hebrew at that point, so for that quarter I answered wrong in all three classes, my first, shocking introduction to intellectual limitations. My father would have been able to tell me, but he died a few years ago — and Mama is a good Hildesheimerin who was not permitted to speak dialect, so she also does not know Yiddish. |
