Israeli firms develop systems capable of controlling enemy drones
2019-08-30
[IsraelTimes] Technology can be used to thwart attacks and gather information about UAVs.

"The system we developed can detect hostile drones at a range of up to 3.5 kilometers (2.17 miles) and take control of about 200 drones simultaneously," Asaf Lebovitz, product manager in Skylock, one of the companies, told the Haaretz daily.

Skylock demonstrated its new invention at an event some two months ago, according to the report.

Other Israeli companies are developing similar technology, the report said. Rafael recently introduced its Drone Dome anti-drone system, which is already operational and similarly takes control of potentially armed UAVs and lands them safely.

#7  I think that was Dr. Todd Humphreys' baby. Spoof the sat signal with a relatively stronger one like it and make the GPS think the destination is somewhere else. It's easier to steer automated craft that way, which rely on GPS, and seafaring vehicles where you don't know which way is where for miles. Humphreys demonstrated that commercial drones and UAVs can be steered easily, the autopilot does the flying of course, you just fake the destination. The challenge is only acquiring the signals. Most drones will use the L2C unencrypted signals. UAVs like the raptor and US army drones will use P(Y) or encrypted precision code in the L2 band reserved for militaries, which needs the key to spoof. Getting the key would be a job for humint though.

#6  Isn’t that how the Iranians got our drone? Tricked it about where home was?

#4  Um, I hope the name "Skylock" for a Jewish-owned company is not ironic.
Or maybe not?

#3  The technolngy I like was developed at UT Austin that takes over ships at sea spoofïng the gps signal and steering the ship to a different destination all the while the crew thinks it is still on course.

#2  The Flak-38 has nearly the same effective range and can also be used against mounted or dismounted infiltrators.
