2019-08-25 |
[DAWN] Shamankhel clan of Mehsud tribe from Bangiwala village in Sararogha tehsil of South Wazoo has announced to boycott the anti-polio![]() vaccination campaign starting from Aug 26 in protest against the government’s failure to construct a bridge over a stream near their village. Shamankhel rustics told Dawn on Friday that absence of bridge over the stream was causing them great distress as the locals, including children, had to cross the stream to reach markets and schools located on the other side. They said when it rained the stream overflowed, cutting them off from rest of the areas. The rustics said they would boycott the anti-polio campaign due to government’s apathy towards their plight. They demanded that the government immediately construct a bridge over the stream. Miraj Mehsud, 24, told Dawn that due to absence of a bridge over the stream their children could not attend school. He said some pregnant women died for want of medical treatment as crossing the stream was an uphill task for people, particularly for women. #5 How hard can it be to collect the kids’ Lincoln Logs and build a basic foot bridge from far enough back on the banks that it isn’t likely to be washed away? That’s a standard Eagle Scout project using donated materials and volunteer labour in this part of the world, no need to bring in the government professionals. |

#4 Chances that they'll destroy it or damage it by stupidity/Islam/Protests approach 100%. Fuck em. |

#3 The bridge has probably been built many times over in Islamabad. It's likely a shimmering example of cutting edge environment friendly design and long lasting, A-grade engineering. On paper. |

#1 The rustics said they would boycott the anti-polio campaign due to government’s apathy towards their plight. So it is not about polio at all. They are negotiating for the govt to build them a bridge, without which their lives is, apparently, harsh, short and brutal. As a Westerner, I find bargaining the lives of your children for infrastructure to be... interesting. But hey, they're not my kids! |
