[NYPOST] A gunman, armed with a rifle and wearing a ballistic vest, shot a police officer in New Jersey on Thursday morning, law enforcement sources told The Post.The gunman shot at cops just after 11:30 a.m. on the 300 block of Myrtle Avenue in Irvington, and ran through back yards, according to the sources.
The man, whose name was not released, was in jug moments later, a few houses down on the same street, sources said.
The officer was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the sources said.
It was unclear what triggered the encounter between police and the man.
