Three troops injured, Palestinian gunman killed in Gaza border clash
2019-08-01
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", operative opens fire after crossing border into Israel, army says; soldiers taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries; tank hits Hamas post.

Three Israeli soldiers were maimed by Paleostinian gunfire near the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
border early Thursday, sparking the heaviest cross-border fighting in weeks.

An officer and two soldiers were hit by fire by a Paleostinian gunman who crossed the border into Israel, according to the Israeli military.

The gunman was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers, the army said.

The IDF also hit a Hamas post in the area with tank fire, the military said.

The attacker was armed with a rifle and grenades and wearing a Hamas uniform, according to the IDF. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
an army spokesperson said the military believes the attacker was acting alone and not on orders from above.

There was no immediate comment from Hamas.

The Israeli soldiers were taken to Soroka hospital in Beersheba with non life-threatening injuries. The officer was listed in moderate condition, and the two soldiers were lightly injured.

The army said the incident began after troops were deployed to investigate the suspected gunman as he neared the Gaza border fence.

Paleostinians had earlier reported heavy fighting near Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Video purportedly from the scene published by Paleostinian news outlets showed flares fired into the sky, apparently by Israeli troops, to light the battlefield. Local residents also reported hearing heavy gunfire.

There were also reports of Israeli aircraft in the area.

The army said it closed roads near the border and deployed extra troops to communities near the border during the firefight.

Identified as Hani Abu Salah, a Hamas border patrol member, he was the brother of Fadi Abu Salah, a disabled Palestinian who was killed by the IDF in May 2018 during one of the weekly protests along the border.

#2  During WW-2 in the ETO, M-12 self propelled 155 howitzers were at times used in anti-sniper roles.
Maybe the IDF should try to revive this method.
