July 2019 European heat wave |
2019-07-28 |
[Wikipedia] The July 2019 Western European heat wave is an ongoing period of exceptionally hot weather, resulting in record-breaking high temperatures in five Western European countries: Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.[1] It follows after an unusually hot June heat wave, and has been caused by a strong omega block,[2] specifically by hot and dry air from North Africa, trapped between cold storm systems. The heat wave set new all-time national heat records in five countries. The previous records were exceeded by 3 °C (5.4 °F) in Belgium, by 2.9 °C (5.2 °F) in Luxembourg, by 2.1 °C (3.8 °F) in Germany and the Netherlands, and by 0.2 °C (0.36 °F) in the United Kingdom. #1 all these temperatures are preliminary and need to be audited before the record goes in the book once upon a time the hottest temp recorded was in El Azizia, Libya at 58C in 1922 but a few years ago that was audited and disqualified the audit looks for unexplained temperature spikes, local sources of heat such as jet exhaust and compares the recording station with other nearby stations |
