| #5 I think it's kinda cool, a 21st century version of scattering Granpa's ashes in the ocean. But the coolest part is the $5K price which is an indicator of the growing commercialization of space. Hasta la vista, NASA! I don't recall the date or brand, but if memory serves, the first CD player I ever saw was around a grand. While the price put it out of reach of normal people, it was the first time you could go to the store and buy something with one of those new-fangled LASER thingies in it. (LASER was capitalized back then because it was still an acronym and had not yet become a thing) |

| #4 Height of ostentation. We're so great our ashes need to orbit earth. Abuse of technology for stupid reasons. I agree with the first and second sentences. But it’s these early adopters who pay for repeat trips that will eventually make the exercise cheap enough for the rest of us, if Mr. Musk priced it high enough. Who now remembers how expensive first generation CD players and big screen televisions were? |
