Easter bombers on Sri Lanka payroll: Muslim leader
2019-06-13
[DAWN] The bully boyz behind Sri Lanka's deadly Easter bombings received funding from state intelligence services, a top Moslem leader told a parliamentary investigation.

The comments by Azath Salley, who quit last week as governor of Western Province, added to evidence of massive security failings before the April 21 attacks that killed 258 people.

The bombings were led by Zahran Hashim, a radical who broke from the Sri Lanka Thowheeth Jama'ath (SLTJ) to form an holy warrior group, the National Thowheeth Jama'ath (NTJ).

Salley told the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) that he repeatedly told President Maithripala Sirisena to take action against the group.

"The defence ministry paid the Thowheeth Jama'ath. The police worked closely with the Thowheeth Jama'ath," Salley said, according to a transcript of his remarks.

Salley said the former government of Mahinda Rajapakse in office until 2015 funded Thowheeth Jama'ath through military intelligence, a practice continued by the new administration.

Salley said that the funding was to spy on other groups.

Salley also said that a week before the attacks, he met with top defence officials to warn them about the activities of the Lions of Islam and impending dangers.

"If the police had taken action on the information I provided at the time, we would have been able to avoid this disaster," he said.

The PSC has already heard from several top defence and police officials that the authorities failed to implement an effective security plan even after receiving precise warnings of an impending attack.

Sirisena sacked his national intelligence chief Sisira Mendis after he told the PSC that the attacks could have been averted.

Mendis also said the president had failed to hold regular security meetings to assess the threat from such radicals.

#8   individual and group loyalties are as easily changed as a triple-talaq divorce

#7  We’ve got some of that in the archives, Dron66046. Let me see what Fred’s cute little auto-translate provides, in no particular order:

Tablighi Jamaat
A peaceful group of itinerant Deobandi preachers who form one of al-Qaeda's recruiting arms...

Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...

Jamaat ul Fuqra isn’t an auto-translate item, but the archives have articles in the subject going back to 2005 — see here.

But absolutely the one thing has become very clear over the years: regardless of sworn allegiance to this or that jihadi organization, individual and group loyalties are as easily changed as a triple-talaq divorce, even when personnel aren’t overtly loaned from one to the other.

#6  Here's more. The first Jamaath in Asia was the Tablighi Jamaat, seeking to restore 'virtue among muslims who had long been under rule of the white devils'. The Jamaat-e-Islami, a political statement of islam+statehood came in 1941, when Syed Abul Ala Maududi a particularly nasty, plodding individual first incited local clerics to froth at the mouth preaching for an Islamic State - what is known today as The 'Stain. From the JEM grew the idea of Pan-Islamism, headquartered in Islamabad(yeah !) The idea of the Hadiths as the constitution and unwashed syphilitic clerics as adjudicators of national issues and policymakers first originated with the JEM. Achieving an islamic state they said was the first step, next came the re-conquest of India and its transformation to Dar-e-Islam (abode of islam).

All the successive Jamaaths are descended from this wretched thing. In B'desh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. They had to change their names so many times that it became impossible for new administrations and even interpol to keep track of who fights for who and what is based where. Resulting in the west's inability to successfully identify what exact part and faction of islam is the one posing the main dangers. In france, the US, britain - can you believe many legislators and even immigrant families would never have been allowed to step into countries if they knew what ideology they belonged to and who their allegiances lay with. Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad (Jordanian jihadis) under Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, which allied with Bin Laden, provided necessary training to units that came to be called Al-Qaeda. It's affiliates are a flourishing community in the middle of New Jersey. Islamberg in NY is alligned with the Jamaat al-Fuqraa , also calling themselves the Muslims of America (MOA) organization and under different nomenclatures in different places, it's members have been previously convicted of terror charges.

#4  Wikipedia writes that Thowheeth Jama'ath is connected to Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen India as well as the pledge to ISIS, as is funded by Islamists in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. They also have it marked as inactive and dismantled, which I suspect is an exaggeration. Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh has its own Wikipedia page.

#2  And thus we see that the article achieved it’s other purpose, to generate discussion by those who actually know what they’re talking about. Snark, contrary to the opinion in some quarters hereabouts, being only the third purpose. ;-)

#1  This is bullshit. The rogue islamist governor is so desperate,he's making up a retarded yarn. A number of his kind were booted out because they had links with the terror outfit.

Here's some context :

Mohamed Azath Sanoon Salley, 55, former mayor of colombo and disgraced ex-governor of western province. He is also the founder of the National Unity Front, an Islamic political party. He visited the UAE (!) frequently and worked with the UAE high commission for something to do with Ramadan. Again, a front for funding and recruitment activity.

Most interestingly, (Mohamed) Salley has aready been arrested in 2013 for... ding ! Inciting extremist activity among muslim youth. Jailed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, he claimed that the State of Srilanka was hostile toward muslims, and muslims had the right to revolt.

Srisena made him Governor of the western province because he felt it would be good appeasement for the muslims living there. Salley repeatedly intervened in criminal proceedings against common muslim criminals and worked to have terrorists released without interrogation throughout his term. Most of his 'wards' were members of the Thowheeth Jama'ath. And there is one Jama'ath. Everywhere, one Jama'ath is all it takes. The splinter groups and factions with little nomenclature changes are just facades and mirror work. Remember, one Jama'ath, wherever you hear the term.

"There is only one." - Max von Sydow, Exorcist('73)

When Indian MI alerted their administration, the stupid Srisena refused to listen only because of the liberal left had created an image of the incumbent Indian govt. as a hindu extremist 'islamophobic' administration, seeking to convert neighboring countries to it's idealogy. Nepal too had distanced itself from India for the same reason. Besides, these nations are poor and the leadership is prone to bribes from China and the Gulf. I digress.

The defence ministry of SL is under the President himself. There is no way a President paid and supported a minority group that he foolishly appeases only to keep docile; to bomb churches, kill christians, wealthy foreigners, destroy tourism (their one bloody earner) and peace in his own fucking administration.

This issue identifies and clearly presents a likely scenario that is straight from the islamist expansion script. To infiltrate the administrations, legislatures and service departments of free nations and bring them to ruin. If anything, the people of the west should look upon it and decide if they want muslim appeasers in office, similar Jama'aths and CAIRs and Brotherhoods in their midst. Because hey, this is exactly what happens.

PS: Fred, you could also look at the The Diplomat if information untouched by moslem hands is what you want. Indian news like HT and the Times is just more liberal shit, most Indian journalists are muzzled copy-pasters of jingo rhetoric. I find The Diplomat is excellent for terse, analytical articles. As for news, Dawn does gives us a straight perspective from 'the bad-guy' itself. Besides, reading the DAWN sections curated here is a actually better than reading the depressing rag by itself, so thanks.
