That may be because we are watching the skies closer around that time. Note they don't show up for aborted rescheduled launches.

I remember the Russian trawlers would show up off Kwajalein before we had notice of a launch.

But even in the past. it seems (not completely researched) that most "UFO" sightings coincide with satellites launches.

The sightings are primarily historic, but the SpaceX mesh may very well serve as a detector membrane.
