FBI arrests member of armed group stopping migrants at U.S.-Mexico border
2019-04-21
[Jpost] The FBI on Saturday said it had tossed in the clink
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
Larry Hopkins, a member of an gang of U.S. citizens who have been stopping migrants colonists illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in New Mexico.

Hopkins, 69, also known as Johnny Horton, was arrested in Sunland Park, New Mexico, on a federal complaint charging him with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

Hopkins had represented himself as the commander of the United Constitutional Patriots (UCP), a volunteer group camped out near Sunland Park since late February. The UCP has posted videos showing their members holding migrants colonists, many of them Central American families with children seeking asylum, until U.S. Border Patrol arrives to arrest them.

The group drew a complaint from the American Civil Liberties Union, and widespread media attention, after an April 16 video showed a group of around 300 migrants colonists surrendering to the UCP at their camp.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday said citizens had no authority to arrest or detain anyone and police and justice officials were looking into the UCP's activities.

Hector Balderas, New Mexico's attorney general, described Hopkins as "a dangerous felon who should not have weapons around children and families."

"Today's arrest by the FBI indicates clearly that the rule of law should be in the hands of trained law enforcement officials, not armed vigilantes," Balderas said in a statement.

Hopkins, of Flora Vista, New Mexico, is expected to have an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Las Cruces, N.M., on Monday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m.

#12  If convicted felons can vote, why can't they bear arms? (yeah, its a trick question if you believe in principles, not a trick question if you only believe in power)

#11  Civil societies usually insist on there being Justice and fair play. If the established government refuses to (by political choice - see Democrats), or is unable to, people will form their own groups. call them Vigilianties, or Revolutionaries, or whatever. Their self-preservation instincts kick in and they band together.

Citizen arrest laws vary from state to state and have a long history and tradition in the U.S.

#9  Long Range Rifles can be "selective" for Coyotes of the 4 legged and two legged variety.

#8  ......Americans with long range rifles and scopes patrolling the border and practicing their skills.

That would put a stop to illegal immigration, probably overnight.

#7  The only reason there are Vigilates is because enough of the American people see ( and it is evident ) that the "Law" is feeble, political, and ineffective ( I won't call them incompetent ) that would be going too far. BUT the mental images of a box of Donuts just won't go away.

At least we don't have Americans with long range rifles and scopes patrolling the border and practicing their skills. That is a possibility ,human Nature being what it is.
There is "Law" for the ordinary Americans and "Law for the "Honest" FBI like Comey and HIS "Law" for special people like Hillary. TWO kinds of "Law" ( the new American Law) that cancels a duly elected ( Backed by the Constitutional methods) and the Rule of the MSMedia where the Law" impeaches " anyone not liked by the Democratic Party. Democrats who rig elections and and are above the Law. Two kinds of Law. One for the Bosses and one for the peons.
A Law that uses the Steele Dossier as a way to provide "evidence" more acceptable to A Democrat's level of ethics. But don't worry the FBI are "honest " and respectable people. They are, aren't they?

#3  The arrest wasn't for intercepting illegal entrants but for having firearms while a "convicted felon". Does the gungrabber plan to make all gun owners into felons make sense now?
