#10  TW - They sold some in the past to Qatar so Qatar gave some Pakistani AF Pilots Qatar passports. The French didn't check if the pilots had dual nationality.

#9  When one’s economy is struggling to support the government budget, it’s hard to turn away from a profitable contract.

It may also be a left hand/right hand thingy, if the sales and training division heads are not communicating.

#7  Thanks for the context, 3dc. It was a bit opaque to me too - expect for the Pakistan and India hating each other part.

#6  It might be interesting to know if there were any Muslims in the decision-making chain that led to this decision by the French.

#5  The French have been duplicitous on a number of occasions.

Family member who was there saw lot's of newer French and Russian military/industrial hardware in Iraq the spring of 2003. New German stuff to some extent, too. All items supposedly embargoed.

#4  Herb - India and Pakistan hate each other.
The French just sold the Indians a lot of their fighter jets.
At the same time the French taught the Pakistani's how to fly the same jets in Combat.
(you know you learn all the weaknesses of your plane in combat training too and it's strong points)
So they taught India's enemy all about their new planes...
