Libyan war escalates amid lack of U.S strategy for secret missions in Africa
2019-04-10
[Yahoo] The advance of a rogue militia on Tripoli, the capital city of Libya, has forced the hasty evacuation of U.S. troops from that country, highlighting the lack of a cohesive strategy for ongoing U.S. military operations in Africa and a seeming White House ambivalence about the continent, according to former officials.

For several years, from a handful of outposts in Libya, U.S. special operators have been conducting counterterrorism missions with names like Obsidian Lotus and Odyssey Resolve. These are just two of dozens of named operations that, largely unknown to the American public, have been launched from a string of bases across the northern half of Africa, according to information obtained by Yahoo News via the Freedom of Information Act.

Despite the large number of military operations in the region, some former officials say neither the Obama administration nor the current White House has taken much interest in coming up with a coherent policy for U.S. military operations on the continent. "During my time at the White House with the Trump administration there wasn’t a great deal of concern about doing much in northern Africa," said a former official who recently served on the National Security Council. "There was not a lot of interest or focus on Africa during the time I was there."

President Donald Trump, who reportedly referred to African states as "shithole countries" in January 2018, has faced criticism for essentially ignoring the continent. But in December, his administration announced a new Africa strategy, which a National Security Council spokesperson said committed the United States to helping its African allies build up their security forces while reserving the right to take unilateral action "when necessary to protect the homeland or United States citizens and interests."

#8  When I read this line "...I feel simply reducing $$$ only to countries activity eliminating terrorism,..." I thought, 'wow, pay Russia to be mercs for US'. Aim them in the general direction, and stand way back. I doubt it would get much support, but the idea is intriguing.

#7  Not a fan, but when I hear about Libya, I occasionally wonder how much footage exists covering Daffy's last couple pages of his life.

#5  Western governments systematically destroyed colonial governments and their proven ability to bring effective military force to bear against kommunis and tribal (redundent yes) governance.

You reap what you sow.

#4  Herb,

I asked the same question a million times when I was fighting for my life in Angola and snooping around Rhodesia and Uganda.

#3  "the lack of a cohesive strategy for ongoing U.S. military operations in Africa"

Why the FUCK do we have "ongoing military operations in Africa"? What POSSIBLE interest does it serve?

#2  ....learn basic English, accept our laws, customs, culture and NOT a setup separated communities.

Having trouble enough achieving this right here at home. I give you the crisis on our southern border and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) as examples.

#1  I agree with Trump, it is a Outhouse dumping ground.

Having worked around SFOD-D and lost 2 good friends in Somalia (Oct 3rd and 4th). The military's role is to protect the USA and its Citizens, to neutralize or kill all threats including terrorist trainers and 3rd party/proxy supporters. After pumping BILLIONS into Africa we have little show but more TERRORISTS.

I feel simply reducing $$$ only to countries activity eliminating terrorism, closing down Open Borders and restricting Immigration to those that have had detailed background checks, a viable employment skill, want to become part of America, learn basic English, accept our laws, customs, culture and NOT a setup separated communities. Would solve a lot of the Terrorist issues.
