Palestinians See Little Hope in Israeli Elections
2019-04-02
The view from the Arab side of the aisle:
[AnNahar] Tayseer Barakat is like many Paleostinians when asked about the upcoming Israeli elections. He doesn't see much hope.

"We have learned from past experience that we are always the victims of Israeli elections, and it doesn't seem there will be anything new," said 58-year-old Barakat.

"It is more than likely there will be no meaningful changes, despite our hopes that there will be something new to change the situation," he added as he walked with bags of groceries in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

#3  "It is more than likely there will be no meaningful changes, despite our hopes that there will be something new to change the situation,"

"Our Hopes" as opposed to "the great steps we have taken towards peace". When reading The Arab Mind, one of the (many!) things that struck me was the idea that talking about something was the same as actually doing it. I see it again and again in the ME where loud bloviation and mustache-cursing takes the place of concrete action.

#2  Could've just left it at: "We have learned from past strategy experience that we are always the victims"

#1  There's just zero agency by muzzies, they just seem to expect civilised people to make the place better for them.
