Chris Wallace tells Shep: No Way Trump Will Win In 2020 With Just His Base
2019-03-16
[Huffpoo] Fox News host Chris Wallace told colleague Shepard Smith on Friday that there’s no way Donald Trump can win a second term with just his base ‐ and the president doesn’t seem to care about anyone else now.

Smith asked if Trump is simply going to "stay with the base, placate the base and forget everybody else and just figure out a way come 2020?"

"You can’t do it," Wallace responded, "because there’s just not enough votes in the base." Even with polling that indicates as much as 40 percent of eligible voters may be "ever-Trumpers," that’s "not enough to win an election," Wallace emphasized. "So he’s going to have to expand his base."

While his backers love his border wall, it’s not popular with the majority of Americans, Wallace noted. He’s going to need the "independents ... suburban Republicans, suburban women," Wallace added.

He suspects Trump hopes the Democrats will nominate someone "so far to the left ... that it’s going to make it easier for him; he doesn’t have to pivot as far to the center" to pick up some of that support, Wallace added.

#17  Also, President Trump has been talking about the recently launched Jexodus effort, which doesn’t even include things like this video of Holocaust survivors put together by a New York Democratic assemblyman.

A historian I know has been arguing that the political parties are in the process of realigning, and that is definitely how it is looking to me.

#16  There is an entire You Tube channel of #WalkAway stories, including a Muslim lad from Texas and several compilation videos like this.

#15  Trump hasn't lost his base, he hasn't lost the blue collar workers in the rust belt, and the demoncrats are a circular firing squad at this point.

Looking good for Trump now... but from now until October 2020 is an eternity in politics and anything and everything can happen.

#14  I'm sure that kind of talk got Shep Smith all hot and bothered.

#13  The dem party base seems to be getting "more selective" as well...

#12  He can't win without them, either.

#10  Trump supporters have never left him. This veto is encouragement to stay the course. The 12 defectors will never be trusted. As the conventional media slowly dies Trump will shine on. Trump is getting things done. The others can only run their mouths.

#9  No way Trump can breach Hillary's impenetrable blue wall in the rust belt. It will be an early night for him.

#8  I was admittedly wrong in 2008, but look at the 'clown car' of potential democratic candidates. If the market and economy holds and we can stay out of a major conflict, I think he'll do fine against any of these people.

Voters tend to vote about beans on the table.

#7  Also, if Trump can build the wall, re-establish the "Rule of Law" and and have prosecutions for the crimes left over from the Obumble administration... It could be an good win.

#5  Wallace and Shep are hopeful, some might say they are whistling in the graveyard. Trump expanded his the Pub base in 2016 and won. If the Pubs can maintain that base and close the doors on illegal voting and Dem election-rigging, he should win reelection. Politics are not for the faint of heart.

#4  I don't pay any attention to the polls, however, I don't think he has a snowballs chance. One of his administrations fatal failures was not cleaning up and vigorously prosecuting voter fraud.

The Democrat/Republican criminal combine is not going to allow him another term. I wish it wasn't so, but that is how I see. The value of Trump's one term is that the mask is well and truly off for our enemies. Can't put that Genie back in the bottle. We also now know that a huge percentage of the population *wants* Socialism.

I see no way to avoid a HOT CW2 at this point. The Left will gain the White House and the Senate in 2020 and proceed to destroy the economy and finish flooding the nation with 3rd world rabble.

#1  Of course he won't win. There is no way he will win in 2016 either. All the smart people know this. Just look at the polls!
