Syria reports Israeli artillery attack on Quneitra
2019-02-12
[IsraelTimes] Syrian state media claims IDF targeting hospital and observation post with tank shells; Israeli military does not comment.

Israeli forces shelled the Syrian city of Quneitra, Syrian state media reported Monday night.
Could be remnants of ISIS or Al Nusra, the lads of the Palestine Liberation Army — attached to Assad’s forces — feeling their oats, someone showing off for visiting Iranian officers, or just a bit of misplaced guns3x aimed too close to the Israeli lines and needing pushback...
According to the state-run SANA news agency, Israeli tank shells targeted a hospital in Quneitra and a nearby observation post.

Quneitra lies just across the border on the Golan Heights, in the demilitarized zone between the countries.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to the report.

According to SANA, the shelling caused material damage but no casualties.
The Jerusalem Post points out:
Quneitra was re-gained by Bashir al-Assad's regime forces in July 2018, having been held by a rebel faction for the majority of the country's seven-year-long civil war. The area sits some 500 feet from the 1974 internationally-mediated ceasefire line.

In late December, IDF forces fired at armed suspects approaching the Israeli border from Syria.
Update from Al Masdar:
Syrian military on high alert after Israeli attack

The Syrian military has been placed on their highest alert level after a brief Israeli attack targeted their positions in the al-Quneitra Governorate.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian military’s air defense forces were placed in a ready position to confront a potential Israeli attack on the western part of the country.

The source said while it is highly unlikely that the Israeli military will strike again, they wanted to take all precautionary measures to ensure they are able to foil an attack.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military launched three separate strikes that targeted three different Syrian Arab Army sites.

The first attack targeted a Syrian Army garrison at a large hilltop; the second strike targeted the Quneitra Hospital, which was later turned into a base by Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
; and the third attack targeted another garrison at Jabata al-Shaab.
