[Express] The survey of 1,000 voters in each country, found that 46 percent of French and 47 percent of Germans believe their country’s values conflict with Islam. While, almost one in two people in France and Germany said they would "mind a lot" or "mind a little" if one of their close relatives were to marry a Muslim.
But a small number of people in either Germany (seven percent) or France (five percent) said they were "very familiar" with the teachings of the second-largest religion in the world, Islam, according to the poll on attitudes towards religion, carried out by YouGov.
And just 10 percent of French people and just eight percent of Germans, lower than the 13 percent of Britons, said they viewed the religion favourably.
This was in comparison to the 53 per cent of people in Germany who had an unfavourable opinion, and the 49 per cent of people in neighbouring France.
While only 20 percent of Germans and 22 percent of French people questioned said Islam was "generally compatible". |
