De Blasio's empty boasts about graduation rates

[NYPost] Mayor Bill de Blasio and Chancellor Richard Carranza crowed Wednesday about the city’s record high school graduation rates, but they might as well have been bragging about getting water to run downhill.

Higher rates are what you’d expect, when the State Education Department and Board of Regents have spent years making it easier to graduate.

And when schools can use bogus "credit recovery" programs and change student grades to increase their number of grads ‐ since the only time these schemes get exposed is when The Post does it.

Yes, the latest SED data show that 75.9 percent of all kids who started at a New York City public high school in 2014 graduated last year, and the city reports that two thirds of those meet CUNY’s standards for college readiness. But that’s a jump from 51 percent to 67 percent college-ready among graduates in just two years, after years of minimal change. It looks more like the result of CUNY lowering its standards than anything Team de Blasio’s done.
They live in a world where appearances are everything and reality is nothing - no wonder Western "Elites" are so in love with Islam!
...As an SED spokesperson put it, "We know the graduation rate could be even higher if students were given the option to demonstrate their proficiency in meeting standards in multiple ways." Right: With enough ways to "demonstrate proficiency," the kids won’t even need to go to school to graduate.
Unless they happen to be Asians
De Blasio had the gall to claim that rising graduation rates show that "mayoral control of education works." Clearly, his own schooling failed to instill a sense of shame.
