World Council of Churches pulling observers from Hebron over security concerns |
2019-01-31 |
[IsraelTimes] The Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Paleostine and Israel (EAPPI), which brings international church members to the West Bank to "experience life under occupation," is pulling its volunteers from Hebron due to security concerns. In a statement, the EAPPI says the flagship program of the World Council of Churches has "reached a critical point this week as a result of alleged harassment by settlers and by Israeli soldiers." The announcement comes two days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would not renew the mandate of an international observer force in Hebron. Netanyahu said the Temporary International Presence in Hebron was biased against the Jewish state, and he would not allow an organization "that acts against us" to continue operations. |
