Seven killed in attack on bar in Mexico tourist resort
2019-01-08
[SG.NEWS.YAHOO] Gunmen opened fire in a crowded bar in the Mexican resort city of Playa del Carmen, killing seven people, authorities and media reports said Monday, in the latest violence to rock the country's tourist-magnet beaches.

"Six people bit the dust at the scene, and a seventh subsequently died while being taken to the hospital," the public security minister for the state of Quintana Roo, Alberto Capella, told TV network Televisa after the Sunday night attack.

Local media reports said the bar was about 10 minutes from the center of the main tourist zone, and was packed with revelers at the end of the Epiphany holiday weekend.

Playa del Carmen and nearby Cancun are the top tourist destinations in Mexico, famous for their turquoise waters and white-sand Caribbean beaches.

But they have been increasingly hit by violence as Mexico's powerful narco mobs fight for control of the area.
The Daily Mail has photos, adding:
Local sources report that the feared Jalisco cartel has moved into the region, disputing control with local gangs.

#6  Stay in the resorts and you'll be fine.... who ever visits the local towns is risking it.

#5  Visited Quintana Roo, Merida, and Cozumel in the late '80s. Beautiful place then with friendly people. Damn shame

#4  Travel advisory at Level 2 here. for those who might want to travel to area.

$20 billion dollar tourist industry into the dumper. They still have the drug, and human and child trafficking industries for awhile longer.

If this happens, there will be nothing left to control.

#1  That's the problem with 'last call' in bars in Mexico. Once the Cerveza stops, the bullets fly.
