Border agents are copying travelers' data, leaving it on USB drives |

![]() [NakedSecurity] Are you one of the travelers to the US who've been stopped, questioned, and required to hand over your electronic devices for search? Our apologies: there's a good chance that we still have your data kicking around on a USB drive. Somewhere. Maybe. Unless we lost it, I guess. |

#2 it would be trivial for border agents to put crap on your devices, to be discovered at a later time & make you guilty of a felony. Super easy, barely an inconvenience. You can even diddle the timestamps on the files to make it look they've been there for a while. |

#1 Or travel with a "scrubbed" laptop & ship the data ahead of you or leave it encrypted online somewhere for you to access later. Then scrub the laptop before you return. Of course with this lousy security, it would be trivial for border agents to put crap on your devices, to be discovered at a later time & make you guilty of a felony. THAT has probably been happening too. |
