The 'world's first' A.I. news anchor has gone live in China
2018-11-10
[CNBC] A TV anchor has joined a Chinese news agency, but with a twist: he isn't human. China's state-run Xinhua News Agency has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) anchor, a move it claims to be a world first.

"English AI Anchor" debuted Thursday at the World Internet Conference in the country's eastern Zhejiang Province.

Modeled on the agency's Zhang Zhao presenter, the new anchor learns from live videos and is able to work 24 hours a day, reporting via social media and on the Xinhua website. "'He' learns from live broadcasting videos by himself and can read texts as naturally as a professional news anchor," the company said in an online statement.

#5   What about Don Lemon?

I'm all for AI robot newsreaders. After all, artificial intelligence is better than no intelligence at all.

Hell, I could replace Don Lemon tomorrow with a Markov chain and a text-to-speech module

#4  What about Don Lemon? Or does there have to be a measure of some kind of intelligence?

#3  Shades of Ron Burgundy:
"He'll read ANYTHING you put on the teleprompter"
"Anything?"
"ANYTHING"

#2  Fire All the News Anchors and "Talking Head" commentators...
Way back, about 1982 IIRC, the local Cable TV distributor had the "Raw" AP Headline feed on one of the channels. All capitol letters and a single paragraph on each story in a very terse "Just the facts, Ma'am!" format-- my understanding was that the local news outlets could "buy" an expanded version if they were interested. Then watching the very same story slanted on the Nightly News I wondered if I had been transported to some alternate reality. The facts kinda-sorta matched but the Spin was totally different... At that point my trust in the MSM died.

#1  We are still stuck in the artificial stupidity stage. Most anchors are programmed daily with a limited number of Democrat talking points which they deliver with a kind of robotic affect. Little learning is involved.
