Day 2: Explosive Devices Sent to Clinton, Obama, CNN, Former Head of Democratic National Committee
2018-10-25 | ||
Federal officials later found similarly packaged explosives addressed to Mr. Obama’s Washington, D.C., residence and sent to CNN’s headquarters and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Florida office. Two suspicious packages addressed to Rep. Maxine Waters of California were also intercepted. Officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation released a photo of one of the packages, saying they were mailed in envelopes with a Bubble Wrap interior. Computer-printed address labels and six U.S. Postal Service stamps, some depicting the U.S. flag, were affixed to the front. All had a return address for “Debbie Wasserman Shultz,” with her last name misspelled. Investigators believe the packages came from the same individual or individuals, officials said. As of Wednesday evening, law-enforcement officials said they hadn’t identified any suspects. A federal official described all the devices—none of which exploded—as “very similar in style,” potentially effective but “not sophisticated.” The packages were similar to one found Monday in the mailbox of the Westchester County, N.Y., home of billionaire philanthropist George Soros, a prominent liberal donor, officials said. Authorities detonated that device and the evidence was sent to an FBI laboratory in Virginia, where all the devices are being analyzed. The string of mail bombs led to tightened security around Washington, D.C., and New York City. It also drew widespread condemnation from both political parties two weeks ahead of the midterm elections. The Secret Service said it had initiated a criminal investigation into the packages sent to Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton, both of whom receive Secret Service protection. Mr. Obama is protected as a former president, and Mrs. Clinton remains under protection as a former first lady. Bombing incidents remain relatively uncommon in the U.S. falling 24% to 335 incidents last year from the year before, according to federal data. The FBI said it was working with other law enforcement agencies. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which has technical expertise on such matters, is also part of the investigation as is the Joint Terrorism Task Force. On Tuesday night, the Secret Service recovered a single package containing an explosive device at a checkpoint outside the Chappaqua, N.Y., home of Bill and Hillary Clinton. The package was addressed to her, according to the Secret Service. Secret Service agents then discovered another package addressed to Mr. Obama early Wednesday in Washington, D.C. Both packages were identified during mail-screen procedures, and neither reached Mr. Obama or Mrs. Clinton. The New York Police Department then warned businesses, urging security and mailroom staff to be on the lookout for suspicious packages, according to a senior law-enforcement official. The NYPD said that the suspicious packages might contain protruding wires, excessive or missing postage stamps, strange odors and oily stains on wrappers. NYPD officials were in the CNN mailroom in Manhattan’s Time Warner Center advising staff on the warning signs when they found a package addressed to John Brennan, director of the Central Intelligence Agency under Mr. Obama. The package contained a pipe-bomb and white powder, according to Police Commissioner James O’Neill. It wasn’t clear why the device found at CNN was addressed to Mr. Brennan. Wednesday morning, bomb squads were dispatched to the Sunrise, Fla., office of Ms. Wasserman Schultz, a former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. A pipe bomb was found there in a package addressed to former Attorney General Eric Holder, who worked for the Obama administration, the FBI said. The package didn’t reach its intended address, and was rerouted to Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s office, which was given as the return address, the FBI said. A suspicious package intended for Ms. Waters in Washington was intercepted at a congressional mail facility in Maryland, the lawmaker said Wednesday. The FBI later confirmed it was also investigating a second package addressed to the lawmaker.

This is a boom, not boom, update. Adam Housley says a federal official told him the bombs were complete fakes. From fed source: “complete hoaxes” multiple wires when they only needed one. Reports of cell phones being involved was false. So no intention of harm. Now the questions. Dry run, or a false flag from the right or left trying to mess over the other side?Now, we have to be careful because this is complete contradiction to what was reported before: Packages to Soros, Obamas, Clintons, Brennan c/o CNN, Holder -- these devices, per law enforcement sources, were rudimentary but functional.We should know pretty soon if they were real or not, which would make a big difference as to motivation, and what the attacks mean for the election…. [H/T: Crazy Korean lady on the podcast] UPDATE: Just to be clear, I changed the headline to reporter, because Adam Housley is a former Fox News reporter, not a current one. I apologize for the mistake.

#30 The observer thinks there were not enough stamps. And they get weighed regardless; recently had a deal kicked back to me for not enough stamps. The way the addresses were taped onto the package it would be really, really hard to not catch some sort of DNA sample. I like the 'Oh my a bomb! I'm just gonna set it next to this deal of clorox wipes and take a couple casual pictures. No biggie." |

#29 My $0.02 is on it being either a local florida 'reporter' who moonlights as a democrat operative or a local democrat party guy who is tied to some of these Democrat led domestic terror groups like Southern poverty law center or antifa or something. And they will have 'taken' their own life as the FBI closes in. Ie, found dead with two 'self inflicted' gunshots to the head. |

#27 Someone noticed the postage was completely off for an item that weight. Someone just bought a page of stamps and split them among the bundles. Didn't want the PO to weigh them I guess. |

#26 Looking more and more like a false flag. I suspect it is some hard core demoncrat that wants to make it look like Trumpkins are trying to kill all of the left's leadership and spokespeople. Doubt this is a full hoax effort by the official left. |

#25 It started with Soros - could he have sourced a false flag? I would not put him past it, he has organized people to do things like tank currencies, etc. before. Awfully convenient that these were delivered all over the place on the exact same day and that at least 2 of them in NYC were hand delivered. So its either a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy that is competent enough to do a time-on-target but not competent enough to build a decent explosive device or package the bomb, or even get the postage right... Or someone out there is trying awfully hard to make it look like there is one. |

#24 Funny, DWS has not been an anything since she was fired for getting caught rigging the 2016 primary against Bernie Sanders. In fact, the whole target pattern would suggest that, a pissed Sanders supporter or disillusioned hardcore democrat. Then again, the CNN piece is a total fraud. Someone noticed the postage was completely off for an item that weight. |

#20 Real or not, I cant imagine the DNC being this stupid. I am certain we will find some far left fringe group that did this as a false flag. If the far right fringe did it, they would have exploded, the militias know how to make pipe bombs. The left will ride it for all its worth, but the crackpot that did this will be found, hopefully before the elections, and Just as the DC shooter was found, they will be leftists. |

#19 The methods and timing of this is what first aroused my suspicions. If the devices are all as shown in the Daily Mail photos: BIG white lumpy envelope (instead of box) with huge address lettering (subtlety is not our friend, apparently). No stamp cancellations, unless scrubbed for security, shown in published photos (may have been hand-delivered somehow, but why put 3-bucks worth of stamps on them then? Maybe to fool the Mail Rooms?). Using an $12 4-digit LCD timer (better than a blinking Red LED, so there's that) although the black electrical tape does give it a nice 'homegrown' appearance. Why spend the money on a LCD? A blank 555 chip/board would be cheaper, smaller and less obvious as to when it would time out. Then there's a problem with the detonator battery (unless it's a 2nd item stuck inside the pipe itself). The nano-battery(s) in the timer wouldn't have enough juice to trigger a b-cap, 2301 Igniter, or even a short piece of nichrome wire, unless I'm unaware of some new nano-amp firing method. Cellphone batteries would have enough juice, but they'd be way too big for the timer in the photo. CR2032 or CR2430 might be enough if 'stacked', but then almost larger than timer. And that they were delivered seemingly simultaneously. One (or even handful of) nutjob couldn't do this. Very coordinated. The fact that none of these went off is sort of telling, too. Found right away, like someone almost knew where to look for them. Then there's the '2-week prior' timing of this...... |

#16 October surprise. This stinks of media and Democrat collusion to influence this election.All bombs found. No bombs exploded. Insufficient postage.Weight at least was tip off. No stamp from postal service. The FBI could have colluded as well. This is a manufactured fake news event. |

#15 Some sources are reporting the Soros and CNN-NY devices were "hand delivered". I never knew NYC was such a hotbed of right-wing bombmaking terrorists. Put this one on the False-Flag side of the ledger. |

#13 I bet they have their canned goods all ready go to go. They'll find him, and he'll conveniently commit suicide or die in 'crossfire' and then the whole thing will be pinned on him. Like Oswald. |

#12 phony baloney bombs which were packed with flour or sugar Dust Explosion "They are also commonly used by special effects artists, filmmakers, and pyrotechnicians, given their spectacular appearance and ability to be safely contained under certain carefully controlled conditions." |

#11 Next time I hear someone call a bomb a"device"... There are so many stupid or deliberate mistakes, I'm up in the air. Because none of the bombs went off (dummy bombs) must be false flag or threats. If they don't find the sender rather quickly or at all, now that will be telling. That is, simpleton, clever faker, maybe pro? If more don't turn up today I'm guessing one of the later two. |

#6 So it HAS occurred to several people besides myself that these "bombs" addressed to Donks are probably Donks initiated. In other words these phony baloney bombs which were packed with flour or sugar and never meant to go off ( none of them did ) were actually Democratic Party in origin sent to themselves ( quite safe and loaded with nothing more dangerous than toothpaste.) Pipe bombs at their most incompetent . no boom boom and did they even HAVE detonators to explode their funny fantasy bogus look at me democrat gizzards? If you thought the Donks were google eyes oogity boogity with frustration and hatred ...this is a big serving with a bent spoon. 2016 Trump craziness second act while the Donks "bomb" themselves with pancake mix. And CNN j'accuses its own butt |

#5 Noting that "first reports are always wrong", some stories are indicating that these "bombs" were more like Hollywood movie props. False flag? Maybe. Nutcase? For sure. |
