Khalilzad, ex-Jihadi leader Sayaf met in Kabul to discuss peace prospects |

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The U.S. Special Adviser for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad met with the former prominent Jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasool Sayaf to discuss prospects for Afghan peace. Sources close to Sayyaf revealed that the two sides held talks regarding the current situation of the country, specifically focusing on prospects for the revival of Afghan reconciliation process. Mr. Khalilzad had earlier met with President Mohammad Ashraf, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah ![]() , and some other senior government officials. The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement had earlier said the two sides discussed the prospects for an Afghan-led reconciliation process. President Ghani said spoke regarding the efforts of the Afghan government regarding the grinding of the peace processor and maintaining stability in the country, ARG Palace said. In his turn, Mr. Khalilzad shared information with President Ghani regarding his trips to the regional countries and reaffirmed the U.S. government and nation’s support to the Afghan government and Afghan nation regarding the reconciliation process. |
