US rejects Iran's legal claim to recover $1.75 bln in frozen assets
2018-10-09
[Ynet] The United States on Monday asked judges at the International Court of Justice to throw out a claim by Iran to recover $1.75 billion (1.5 billion euros) in national bank assets seized by US courts.

The US Supreme Court ruled in 2016 that the assets must be turned over to American families of victims of the 1983 bombing of a US Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, among others.

The noose tightens.

Yes to compensation for Beirut bombing of USMC barracks. There also needs to be compensation for enslaving U.S. embassy employees during the Carter admin. Add to that the seizure of our ships in the Persian Gulf.

Trump probably has given a standing order to sink any Iranian ships that harass or try to seize any of our ships.

#1  ...When Obama and Kerry were finessing the details on the Iranians' bribe funds-transfer-that-wasn't-a-treaty-so-the-Senate-doesn't-have-to-worry-its-little-head-about-it, more than a few GOP senators signed a letter reminding people that if it ain't a treaty then the next guy to come along might just scrap the whole damned deal.

Heaven knows they weren't thinking of DJT at the time - who was? - but you'd think the Iranians might be figuring out by now that the next guy ain't playing by the same rules anymore.
