Bolivia is following Venezuela and Nicaragua - and that’s toward totalitarian rule |
2018-09-14 |
Bolivian President Evo Morales announced last week that he will submit to his country’s Congress - where he enjoys a comfortable majority - a “law against lies,” which would penalize news about his government that he doesn’t like. In several statements in recent weeks, Morales said he will propose a law to “punish liars” in the media and to “moralize” independent news organizations. The Inter-American Press Association has denounced that the proposed law would impose an all-out censorship on the media. It’s ironic that Morales does even dare to publicly bring up the issue of lying. He has repeatedly promised to retire after finishing his constitutionally-allowed term, only to circumvent the rule of law to re-elect himself several times. It’s time for the region’s diplomatic community to speak out about the slow-motion coup d’etat that’s taking place in Bolivia before it escalates into a Venezuela or Nicaraguan-style crisis. |

#8 #4 Why can't they follow Chile's example? Why duplicate failure? Yeah, because the oligarchs get rich. And because a lot of dumb, evil people will vote for Free Shit at the expense of their neighbors. Not that the country that elected Obama twice can throw stones. |

#7 Someone once said that if you took all the money and distribted it equally (socialism), give time, a small group of people would end up with most of the money. |

#5 ..reminds me of a story out of Northern Ireland. An American walks in to order a beer. The barman asks are you Protestant or Catholic. The American replies he's agnostic. The barman asks are you Protestant agnostic or Catholic agnostic? Are you a capitalist oligarch or a socialist oligarch? |
