Aretha Franklin Bashed Trump in Private, Blew Off Inauguration Invite
2018-08-19
[Daily Beast] The president called her his ’friend.’ The Queen of Soul wanted absolutely nothing to do with him or his inauguration, sources confirm.

The late "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin hated the political rise of Donald Trump. But that didn’t stop him from trying, and failing, to book her to perform at his 2017 inauguration.

Shortly after his shock election victory, then President-elect Trump tasked Tom Barrack, his longtime friend and the chairman of the Presidential Inaugural Committee, with reaching out to Franklin to ask if she would perform at an inaugural event and concert, according to three sources familiar with what happened. Trump had long considered the legendary singer a friend, and wanted the offer framed as an opportunity to help bring the country back together after a brutal, bruising presidential election.

However, Team Trump’s contacts in Hollywood failed to secure the Queen of Soul for the inauguration.

#7  So many of the performers who turned their backs on him once he ran as a Republican loved him back when he was a simple billionaire hotelier/property developer and fellow entertainer via "The Apprentice". I don't doubt he was surprised they all turned on him like rabid dogs -- it's to his credit that he didn't destroy them in the eyes of their other friends by posting clip after clip of them happily thanking, praising, and partying with him over the years.

#5  Much of the lumpen leftist base intuits getting their opinions from celebrities much the same way cargo cults operate: "I think the same way that pretty, rich person does. Soon I will be pretty and rich..."

#4  We should care about the *personal* opinion of an entertainer -- Why?

#2  Economy is up. Unemployment is down (especially among African-Americans). USA is closer to fair trade than it was in the last 50 year. Foreign policy works. Illegal immigration (which harms African-Americans more than anybody else) is down. Who the hell cares what Aretha Franklin (or any other entertainer) think outside their (very narrow) area of specialization?

#1  Shocking! Daily Beast rushing to set the record straight, exploit the dead, and cast turds upon Pres. Trump's tribute.

A revelation on a par with Rep. Pete King's news on Brennan running intel policy (and probably a lot more) from the Obama White House.
