Bodies of eight civilians, including three children, recovered from Mosul rubble

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi authorities announced on Saturday that eight bodies of civilians have been recovered from the rubble in Mosul city.

Speaking to BasNews on Saturday, Cap. Hussein Ali said that civil defense forces managed to recover bodies of eight civilians, including three children, in al-Khanotiya area in Mosul's western side.

The bodies "were sent to the forensic medicine department in order to be delivered to their relatives," he added.

Iraq arrests 5 fighters in Mosul for joining Islamic State group

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) – Five Islamic State militants were arrested Saturday in Hawy al-Kanisah area in Mosul's western side, Iraqi authorities announced.

"The five admitted belonging to the terrorist Islamic State group and carrying out several criminal and terrorist acts against civilians in Mosul," Alghad Press quoted Maj. Gen. Saad Maan, the interior ministry's spokesman, as saying in a statement.

"They are originally coming from Qabr al-Abd village, Hammam al-Alil region, but they changed their residence to hide from the police," the spokesman added.

Earlier in the day, the Iraqi Security Media Center announced the capture of two IS militants in Mosul's eastern side.

Two people freed from Islamic State captivity in Mosul city

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi authorities announced on Saturday the release of two kidnapped people from Islamic State captivity in southwestern Mosul.

"The 44th brigade of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) managed to free two people after having been kidnapped by Islamic State in Al-Hadar district in southwestern Mosul," Almaalomah website quoted a security source as saying.

The source pointed out that the release of the abductees "came after carrying out a security operation based on accurate intelligence reports."

During their seizure of the city of Mosul in 2014, Islamic State militants declared a self-styled "caliphate" from there and started to kidnap locals and ask their relatives to pay a ransom in order to release them.
