[Sun Star] Philippine troops have killed a Maute militant and recovered high-powered weapons after a gun battle in Masiu, Lanao del Sur, the military said Thursday. Military spokesman Roseller Murillo identified the slain Maute militant as Zainal Candidato. No one troops were either killed or wounded in the clash.
Murillo said the firefight broke out when the troops raided the lair of Panarigan Tama Baoraki alias Golden Boy and Hadji Rasul Amimbering in Masiu. He said that the two are leaders of an armed group with ties to the Maute group operating in Lanao del Sur.
Baoraki and Amimbering and their followers fled to different directions following a 10-minute firefight, he added.
