Santa Barbara Authorizes Jail Time for Handing Out Straws
2018-07-26
h/t Instapundit
The city of Santa Barbara has passed an ordinance that will allow restaurant employees to be punished with up to six months of jail time or a $1,000 fine for giving plastic straws to their customers.

The bill was passed unanimously last Tuesday, and covers bars, restaurants, and other food-service businesses. Establishments will still be allowed to hand out plastic stirrers, but only if customers request them.

#11  If they can charge for them, why can't they bundle that charge into the price of the drink. Then lessen the price of the drink by the same amount... and thrown out of court with a possible counter-suit for harrassment.

#5  The Nanny State strikes again. There goal is to be as annoying as possible. I looked at a website talking about this issue. Some of the photos of wildlife look staged although I couldn't prove it. Here.

There's plenty of garbage tossed along roadways that doesn't get addressed. Why don't these lefties clean up the roadways instead of complaining about straws?

#4  3dc, IIRC, the law also bans paper straws.

#2  Funny thing os that I read most of the plastics (including straws) in the Pacific Ocean actually came from the Asians countries.

#1  Enjoy that root beer float or a asian Boba drink with a paper straw. I doubt it works. The Boba drink stands could make a charge of racism stand against those greens.
