Shots Fired at School
2018-05-18
SANTA FE, Texas (KTRK) -- Law enforcement sources confirm to ABC13 at least 8 people are dead following a shooting inside Santa Fe High School.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says one suspect is in custody and a person of interest is detained. According to law enforcement agencies, it appears the shooter is a student.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says the death toll could rise to 10. Those killed include students and adults.

Santa Fe High School is on lockdown after a shooting inside the school. Witnesses say the shooting took place in an art class on campus between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m.

Santa Fe Police, Galveston County Sheriff's Office and ATF agents have all responded to the school at 16000 Highway 6. Students are being lined up outside the school, and their backpacks are being deposited for officials.

Life Flight was also called to the scene. There is no official confirmation of any injuries at this time, but there does appear to be a possible body under a sheet near an exit door.

Shooting incident reported at Santa Fe High School in Galveston County. We have @HCSOTexas units enroute to assist. Large police presence, please avoid the area. #hounews #lesm

A student tells ABC13 she saw a gunman shoot a girl. This is an unconfirmed report.

Sophomore Leila Butler tells ABC13 that at about 7:45 a.m. fire alarms went off and students left their classrooms. She reports some students believe they've heard shots fired. She is currently sheltering with other students and teachers near campus.
Update from the article at 4:50 pm EDT: 10 dead, mostly students, shooter Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, arrested.

What we know about the shooter: freshman football team, Greek Orthodox church dance troupe, guns apparently belonged legally to his father, explosive devices found in a house, in a car, and at the school.

#17  Perhaps the way to stop these school shootings is not to ban guns but to ban schools.

#16  FYI; Facebook account shows Atheist, communist insignias, iron cross, but no other red flag items. Watch the news push this aside as fast as they can, it doesn't fit their agenda, and indeed invalidates it regarding assault weapons as the problem.

Shotgun and handgun are superior at CQB and room clearing. I was wondering when one of these mad assassins would figure it out. AR15 wrong for CQB. The Florida used "assault weapons" and killed far fewer. Makes the entire Assault Weapons Ban irrelevant, and shows just how incorrect it was.

#13  Weapons: Shotgun. 38 revolver. Belonged legally to the parents.

2 police resource officers there one critical wounded, and one random patroller. Status unknown. But apparently they were known and targeted.

So lefties, shut the F up about assault weapons, semiautomatic weapons, and gun control. Ankid with his dad's shotgun and a revolver did this. It's not the weapon. Its not the gun laws. Get that into your thick heads.

This is a school security problem. Limit access, arm and train staff on a voluntary basis for concealed carry. Single point of entry with an armed presence at all times.

#11  Time for some "Cruel and Unusual Punishment?" Just as a deterrent, mind you.

#10  There were several other attempted attacks that were stopped the past two weeks that were stopped.

There aťtackers are loving all the strife they are causing amongst all of the adults.

#8  I read reports that a substitute pulled the fire alarm to get people out. Seems to me sending a crowd of kids into the hallways when the shooter had a sawed-off shot gun could have turned into a nightmare quickly.

Just a matter of time before a school shooter pulls the fire alarm and hits the crowd coming out the doors.

I hope schools have thought over this sort of thing.

#7  [sarc] Well, "gun controllers" look on the bright side he didn't use more than 10 shots! [sarc off]

Piers Morgan already bloviating how "thoughts and prayers" didn't do the victims any good, so I guess CA or IL level gun laws will fix everything. Oh, wait ...

#5  we are finding that someone in law enforcement or somewhere in the government dropped the ball

Ahem,...parents?
Who didn't know associates, what they were talking about, what they were buying, what they were storing, where.

Seems like charges of manslaughter for 'homicidal neglect' is applicable somewhere.

#3  Once again, we must know all the details about how the shooter got his hands on the gun. More and more often we are finding that someone in law enforcement or somewhere in the government dropped the ball, sometimes in highly suspicious circumstances.

#2  17 yrs old arrested and another "person of interest" sought. Pipe bombs and pressure cooker explosives found(?). We need background checks on pipe

#1  Leftists already blaming NRA and lack of "universal background checks" whatever they are.
