Mafia circles operate under the shadow of Taliban and ISIS groups

[KhaamaPress] The local officials in eastern Nangarhar province are saying that the Mafia circles have stepped up operations under the shadow of Taliban and ISIS terrorist group.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Ataullah Khogyani said at least three people including two soldiers were assassinated in Jalalabad city a while ago with the Taliban and ISIS groups claiming responsibility behind the attacks.

He said the Taliban and ISIS claims were later proved as false after the arrest of the main perpetrators involved in the killings.

The detain individuals have confessed that they carried out the assassinations for receiving 50,000 for each killing and were paid by individuals covered with masks.

The detainees have also confessed that the individuals had no links with the Taliban and ISIS group.

In the meantime, Khogyai says the Mafia circles are attempting to deliberately carry out assassinations in a bid to contribute in the deterioration of the security and to show the failure of the government for their own interests.

NDS Special Forces launch new operations to suppress militants in Nangarhar

[KhaamaPress] The local officials in eastern Nangarhar province are saying that operatives of the Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), have launched new operations to suppress the terrorists in this province.

This comes as the provincial government said Sunday that the NDS Special Forces have arrested two key members of the Taliban group during the operations in Nangarhar province.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the two suspects were arrested from the first police district of Jalalabad city and Nazian district.

The statement further added that the Taliban group member detained from the first police district of Jalalabad has been identified as Nusrat and was involved in terrorist activities in Chaparhar district.

The other suspect arrested from Nazian district has been identified as Zamarak and is originally a resident of Maidan Wardak province and was recruited by the Taliban group leader Qari Niaz Mohammad.

According to the provincial government, Zamarak was on his way to Pakistan to attend some training courses when he was identified as arrested by the NDS operatives.

The provincial government also added that the two suspects are being questioned in the custody of the NDS operatives.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

Senior police official killed in Nangarhar twin blasts

[KhaamaPress] A senior police official was killed in twin blasts in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, the local government authorities said.

The incident took place at around 7 am local time in the vicinity of Behsud district of the province.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the district criminal investigation director Gen. Nasir Ahmad was killed in the explosions.

The statement further added that four civilians including two children also sustained injuries in the explosions.

According to the provincial government, the civilians wounded in the explosions have been shifted to the hospital and their health condition has been reported as satisfactory.

Provincial governor Mohammad Mangal expressed condolences regarding the killing of Gen. Nasir Ahmad and condemned the attack by the terrorist groups, according to the governor’s office.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The security situation in eastern Nangarhar province continue to deteriorate during the recent months as the anti-government armed militant and terrorist groups including ISIS loyalists are attempting to expand foothold and insurgency in this province.
