| [MAANNEWS] Five Paleostinians were maimed after Israeli forces shelled areas in the eastern Khan Younis district in the southern Gazoo Strip on Wednesday around dawn. The Gazoo Ministry of Health said in a statement that several shells were fired towards a site belonging to the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad ...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah... movement. The ministry added that shots were fired from the site towards the border with Israel. Three Paleostinians were maimed with live ammunition while two others were maimed by the shelling, the ministry said. The statement added that Israeli forces shot up an ambulance attempting to transfer the injured to the hospital. Several Israeli military vehicles raided the area following the shelling, leveling lands along the border as Israeli drones flew over head. An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that "overnight IDF troops identified five suspects, at least one of which was armed, approaching the security fence in the southern Gazoo strip and in response, troops fired towards the suspects." The spokesperson did not comment on the allegations that Israeli forces opened fire on ambulances evacuating the injured.
The Hebrew-language Walla news website cited an unnamed army source as saying security forces had thwarted an attempt by the group to plant an bomb along the border fence. | |
