Afghan forces ring up 15 Taliban in Herat |
2018-04-11 |
At least 17 people including Afghan security personnel and Taliban insurgents were killed and 12 others were wounded during a clash in western Herat province of Afghanistan. Provincial governor’s spokesman Jilani Farhad confirmed that the incident took place in Chesht-e-Sharif district on Monday. Farhad further added that 15 Taliban insurgents were killed and 8 others were wounded during the clash with the Afghan security forces. He also added that an Afghan soldier and a member of the public uprising forces also lost their lives during the clash and four others were wounded. Herat is among the relatively calm provinces in the West and fewer terrorist related incidents have been reported from the province since the fall of the Taliban regime. However, the anti-government armed militant groups have been attempting to destabilize the province which borders some of the restive provinces in the South and Northwest as well as in the West. This comes as at least fifteen civilians were killed or wounded in an explosion in Shindand district of Herat province late on Monday evening. |
