| Explosion reported in a mosque in Herat city | |

| [Khaama (Afghanistan)] An kaboom rocked the western Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... city earlier this afternoon leaving at least eight people dead or maimed. The local officials confirm the incident but the type of the blast and possible casualties have not been ascertained so far. The Herat police front man Abdul Ahad Wali Zada confirmed the incident has taken place inside Nabi Akram Mosque located in the vicinity of the 7th police district of the city. He said preliminary reports indicate at least one person has been killed and seven others have been maimed in the kaboom. However, denial ain't just a river in Egypt... a provincial public health official says at least three people were killed and at least nine others were maimed in the blast.

Deputy police chief Aminullah Amin said two bombers had tried to enter the mosque but were challenged by guards at the site who opened fire on them. Health officials said one person was confirmed dead, with eight maimed but the final casualty figure may change. | |
