Peter Thiel: Europe is cracking down on Silicon Valley out of 'jealousy'
2018-03-16
[TheGuardian] PayPal co-founder says regulators envy industry’s success in US: ‘There are no successful tech companies in Europe’.

European regulators are clamping down on Silicon Valley companies because they are “jealous” of the success of the technology industry in the US, according to PayPal co-founder and investor Peter Thiel.

Speaking about the looming threat of regulation for these companies, Thiel said that the “threat is probably greater in Europe” and there are “good reasons and bad reasons”.

“The good reasons are these privacy concerns and the bad reasons are there are no successful tech companies in Europe and they are jealous of the US so they are punishing us,” he said at the Economic Club of New York on Thursday.

#9  I am completely over this concept that you have to entertain or whatever your staff...it used to be that you worked in a field because you liked the things that you did. Not ball rooms and bounce palaces and skateboard rooms to go and fire up your creativity.

That's why I like construction. People like to build things and the techy BS is only as good as what it can do to get that danged thing built

#8  I personally don't feel much sympathy for silicon valley; they have an enourmous disdain for anyone who produces a physical product besides an electric car, up to and including the people who make the devices they use, but think they'll be able to grind everyone else to death and still make a bucket of money writing the software. And now they're going to be so shocked that China and the EU will be (or in the case of China, already has) erected barriers designed to make sure they control the software industry instead.

Guys? It wouldn't have hurt y'all that much to keep assembly lines for imacs and ipads here.

#3  Personally, I'd love to see someone crush that bunch of pompous, spoiled brats in Silicon valley like a couple of bugs. Their silly-assed play time work spaces are ruining American business and the millennials that the internet are cranking out are just impossible, literally, to supervise train or lead.

#1  Typical Europe. Can't do anything themselves, so they throw all the toys out of the crib and blame America. Why do we still call them allies? They're assholes.
