Citing his dislike of ISIS’s oppression of Moslems in regions falling under their domain, Mahdi defected to the Taliban almost a week ago as fierce battles take place between the two Lion of Islam groups in Afghanistan’s Nanjarhar province. Notably, Abderrazaq Mahdi was the figure responsible for communication and coordination between ISIS’s Iraqi and Afghan branches.
