Former Trump adviser Flynn to plead guilty to lying to FBI
2017-12-01
Former US national security adviser Michael Flynn is to plead guilty Friday to making false statements to the FBI, the first plea by any of the four former Trump advisers charged so far in a wide-ranging investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Court documents show Flynn, an early and vocal supporter on the campaign trail of President Donald Trump whose business dealings and foreign interactions made him a central focus of Mueller’s investigation, will admit to lying about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the United States during the transition period before Trump’s inauguration.

The expected guilty plea makes the retired Army lieutenant general the first person to have actually worked in the Trump White House to face formal charges in the investigation, which is examining possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

#10  White House now says Flynn had approval from Obama admin to talk with the Russian ambassador...

Sounds like Trump and his team set a trap for Mueller and company.

#9  This is actually a pay back from the deep state for Flynn's failure to cooperate with them on stuff when he was at NSA?

#8  Flynn lied to the FBI? What about all the perjurers I watched during the last admin? I think the real issue was that the Flynn's threatened to reveal pedos in government.

#7  Why would anybody answer verbal questions to any government entity that can invoke a Perjury conviction? Send me questions in writing and I will respond, with the advice of legal counsel, in writing. Posted by magpie

BINGO magpie. Yes, a very bad odor surrounding this one.

#5  Ahhh, the good old perjury trap.

I've become anti-prosecutors over the years but they keep making it easy.

#3  What the Flynn Plea Means
...
"Understand: If Flynn’s conversations with the Russian ambassador had evinced the existence of a quid pro quo collusion arrangement — that the Trump administration would ease or eliminate sanctions on Russia as a payback for Russia’s cyber-espionage against the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic party — it would have been completely appropriate, even urgently necessary, for the Obama Justice Department to investigate Flynn. But if that had happened, Mueller would not be permitting Flynn to settle the case with a single count of lying to FBI agents. Instead, we would be looking at a major conspiracy indictment, and Flynn would be made to plead to far more serious offenses if he wanted a deal — cooperation in exchange for sentencing leniency. To the contrary, for all the furor, we have a small-potatoes plea in Flynn’s case — just as we did in Papadopoulos’s case, despite extensive “collusion” evidence. Meanwhile, the only major case Mueller has brought, against former Trump-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and an associate, has nothing to do with the 2016 election. It is becoming increasingly palpable that, whatever “collusion” means, there was no actionable, conspiratorial complicity by the Trump campaign in the Kremlin’s machinations."

#2  Key phrases"...during the transition period before Trump’s inauguration." (post-election, right?) -vs- "...to influence the outcome of the 2016 election."

A something burger only to those willing to suspend logic and discount sequential thinking.
