| [ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Bahraini court has rejected a man’s appeal who was sentenced last month to one year of imprisonment for physically battering his Syrian ex-wife in a case that shocked the small Gulf island nation. Bahrain’s Second High Criminal Court (court of appeals) rejected the appeal on Sunday of the 52-year-old man who brutally attacked his 32-year-old Syrian ex-wife and mother of his five children at their home in Jeblat Habshi, local Daily Tribune reported. Zahraa Sobhy was violently beaten by her husband, Adnan al-Alawi, in September and released a message saying that it was not the first time she was physically attacked by him. The case has turned public opinion on social media since being posted on Saturday, with many using the hashtag #Zahraa_Sobhy to discuss the prevalent issue of domestic violence in the kingdom. |
