| Militant linked to church bombings dies during police raid: Interior ministry |

| [AlAhram] A bad boy linked to a series of church bombings in Egypt died during a police raid in Upper Egypt on Sunday, according to an interior ministry statement. The bad boy killed himself by detonating a suicide belt, having already shot at police in order to evade arrest, the ministry said. The incident occurred late on Sunday in the southern governorate of Qena. There were no casulaties among police personnel, according to the statement. The bad boy was allegedly part of a cell behind a series of terrorist attacks on Coptic churches in 2016 and 2107. The attacks in Cairo, Alexandria and Tanta killed dozens of people, mainly Coptic Christians. The bad boy group ISIS claimed responsiblity for the bombings. The same Islamist group is believed to have been behind an attack on Coptic pilgrims in Minya this year. In May, Egyptian authorities reported the capture of several bully boyz who confessed to involvement in the church bombings. Egypt has been under a state of emergency since the Palm Sunday bombings in Alexandria and Tanta on 9 April. |
