John Lewis (D-Ga): Trans in military now becomes race issue |
2017-07-27 |
Civil Rights icon John Lewis (D-Ga.) ripped President Trump's Wednesday announcement banning transgender people from serving in the military, saying he didn't fight to end racial discrimination just to allow discrimination based on gender identity. "I fought too long to end discrimination based on race and color to allow discrimination based on gender identity to be considered acceptable," Lewis tweeted late Wednesday. "I stand with our transgender service members, and I pray that they will not lose heart. They must know that we love them. We respect them. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice, and most importantly, we will stand for their rights, just as they have stood for ours," Lewis continued over a series of tweets. |

#5 A lot of this country's "leaders" don't give one single damn about this nation. |

#4 ...not to mention the American with Disabilities Act. Though the enemy has shown a proclivity to use wheelchair bound individuals for ordnance delivery, but with no attendant retirement plan. |

#3 That's a powerful and moving argument, Mr. Civil Rights Icon. Except your premise is utterly wrong. Joining the military isn't right. It's something you have to qualify for. There is a whole list of things that will disqualify you, like being fat and stupid. |

#2 I fought too long to end discrimination based on race and color BS. You fought for power. Affirmative Action is race based discrimination. Ask the Asians attempting to enter California universities and the Ivy League. As Holder said, 'my people'. |

#1 Trying hard to convince his countrymen that "civil rights" issue was a mistake? |
