| Ceasefire announced in eastern Damascus |

| [AlMasdar] A new de-escalation zone agreement was announced yesterday in regards to the East Ghouta pocket. The arrangement was signed-off by the Russian military and Syrian opposition representatives in Cairo. The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) also announced that they signed the agreement and will stop all operations in certain parts of East Ghouta starting from today at 12:00 P.M., but nonetheless warned that it would retaliate to any breach of the ceasefire. The Jaysh Al-Islam militant coalition (the largest rebel faction in the East Ghouta pocket) announced that they signed the de-escalation zone agreement with the hope that it will lead to the end of siege conditions via the entering of food, fuel and other aid into the area, optimistically adding that such actions will lead to a political solution for the Syrian crisis. It is worth noting that a Syrian military source added that areas of East Ghouta held by the Faylaq al-Rahman Islamist faction and Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) jihadist group are not included in the de-escalation proposal as neither agreed to it and to this end operations against them by pro-government forces will continue. |
