2017-03-13
[Syracuse.com] The outdoor retailer Gander Mountain has filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11, and says it will close 32 stores as part its plan.

The St. Paul-Minn. based company said it plans to remain open, but put the business up for sale.

The New Hartford store is slated to close, according to a report by wmfj.com. The Cicero store will remain open as will locations in Binghamton and Watertown, according to the list.

Other stores remaining open in New York are in Henrietta, Tonawanda,
...a suburb of Buffalo, NY...
Plattsburgh, Middletown and Kingston.

Gander Mountain operates 162 stores in 26 states.

The 32 stores slated to close are underperforming, according to a statement by the company. They will begin shutting down in the next several weeks, the company said.

The Cicero store opened in 2004.

These are the locations slated to close, according to media reports:

Alabama - Gadsden, Mobile, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa
Georgia - Augusta, McDonough, Snellville
Illinois - Champaign, Algonquin, Springfield
Indiana - Merrillville, Greenfield
Minnesota - Rogers, Mankato, Woodbury
New York - New Hartford
North Carolina - Raleigh, South Charlotte

#6  I love Tractor Supply stores.

They're what Cheaderhead's 'Farm & Barn' stores used to be like back in the 60's/70's before all the 'Children's/Wimmen's Apparel', Home Decorating and furniture showed up.

#5  Gander Mt. opened a new store near me and had a pistol mag I can buy for $47-49 from a number of sources tagged at $75. I do buy wood chips for the smoker there, the prices seem acceptable on that. Carhartt stuff can be had at Tractor Supply or Rural King much cheaper, usually with a better selection. The gun counter guys at Rural King are actually friendly and helpful, too...

#4  Got my best boots at a closeout there.
5.11s, 75% off, bought 3 pair.
Not much discount on weapons or ammo.

#3  Well, at least the local store isn't closing. Its there or the local "Farm & Barn" for Carhartt stuff. Although they have some knock-off lined jeans just as good as Carhartt's. Don't need any shooting supplies anymore, eyes are shot.

#1  Kroger, Publics, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware market essential goods. Gander Mountain, not so much.
