Haggis could be imported into U.S. again soon |
2016-11-27 |
CNN reported Wednesday that Scottish authorities believe they are close to hammering out a deal with the U.S. government that could rescind the 1997 ban, which was spurred by fears stemming from the "mad cow" epidemic of the mid 1990s. Since the ban went into effect, sheep meat and sheep organs have not been imported into the United States. Haggis traditionally incorporates ground-up sheep’s heart, liver and lungs as well as oats and spices, all squeezed as a sausage into a casing made from sheep intestines. Tasty, right? Of course, some haggis purists might turn up their noses at the product the U.S. government eventually permits for importation: a reversal of the 1971 ban on selling sheep lung for human dietary consumption is unlikely, according to CNN. |

#14 Went to the highlands and got the nerve to order Haggis and they refused to serve it to me. They knew I wouldn't like it and I'd tell everyone and so they offered up mutton instead. |

#13 @#12: OK, you made me look. Come to find out there are (2) ways to serve the unchosen "delicacy." Only the lefse resonates here. |

#7 Eat haggis, or don't eat haggis. It's not like they're trying to ram it down anyone's throat. Yet. |

#2 Remove the ban on incandescent light bulbs as well, then I'm on board with this one. That had to be one of the most mother fucking stupid laws ever passed. |
