California to actually begin regulating bovine flatulence |
2016-09-12 |
The bill's author, Democratic Senator Ricardo Lara of Bell Gardens, approved the measure recently and agreed to give dairy farms more time to comply. Regulators hope to reduce methane emissions to 40 percent below 2013-levels by the year 2030, reports CBS News. The measure also aims to "significantly increase" composting in order to reduce the dumping of food waste in local landfills, which officials say releases methane gases upon breakdown. |

#7 I'm curious as to what all the "organic" farmers will use for fertilizer without manure? They just won't use '4-legged animal' manure, SB. |

#5 The measure also aims to "significantly increase" composting in order to reduce the dumping of food waste in local landfills, which officials say releases methane gases upon breakdown. If we had a Stupid-Ass Statement of the Day, that's your winner. It is true that when plant material breaks down in a landfill it releases methane and CO2. But the exact same thing happens in a compost bin, even with an official Green Hippie(tm) brand bin. If you were awake in 5th grade science class, you'd know this. Hint: It's call The Carbon Cycle. |

#3 Only ways you could reduce the 'emissions' from the current ruminant population of CA would be to starve them or put them down. AA5839's comment springs to mind, too.. |

#2 I've always wondered why some of that methane isn't trapped and burned to generate energy. |
