Scottish prisoners request kosher meals: They are ‘nicer' |
2016-09-02 |
An official at Glenochil Prison in Clackmannanshire in Scotland said the prison must provide the kosher meals to the prisoners if they claim to have converted to Judaism, the London-based Jewish Chronicle reported Wednesday. "Where previously we have always had a very minimal Jewish prison population we have seen a huge rise," prison spokesman Tom Fox said. Prison officials believe the inmates think the kosher meals are "nicer." A wee gifilte fish with your haggis? |

#3 It's a prison. They can demand to see a certificate or letter of conversion from the converting rabbi. This may lead to some of them going through the conversion process -- with an Orthodox rabbi that should take about three years of intense study and repeated challenges to see if the desire to convert is real. And then there is the circumcision as part of the ceremony, so that would be an easier check of those making claims, and a check on those less serious about the process. |

#2 I've heard of people doing this on plane flights to get a better grade of crap food. If there is a system, people will try to game it. |
