[Al Ahram] A military court in the Somali capital has given life terms to two men convicted of criminal masterminding the bombing in February of an airliner which made an emergency landing despite a gaping hole in its fuselage. The kaboom happened aboard a Daallo Airlines Airbus A321-111 shortly after the jet, with 75 passengers, took off from Mogadishu airport. Abdiweli Mohammed Maow, a former senior security officer at the Mogadishu airport, was convicted of making the bomb that appeared to be a laptop computer. Areys Hashi Abdi was convicted in absentia. The kaboom, claimed by the Islamic holy warrior group al-Shabaab ![]() ... the personification of Somali state failure... , killed one passenger, Abdullahi Abdisalam Borle, who is suspected to have carried the bomb onto the plane. A body believed to be Borle's was found in a town north of Mogadishu. |
