'Moving to Canada': Trump fuels US relocation dreams
2016-05-22
[Al Ahram] Donald Trump's inflammatory presidential campaign and the prospect of the brash-talking tycoon actually becoming commander-in-chief has left progressive Americans obsessing about one thing: moving to Canada.
Talking about it, anyway. Possibly a percentage in the single digits will actually bestir themselves, should Mr. Trump actually win. The rest will experience four years of Trump Derangement Syndrome, and share it with the rest of us.
Stars from Cher to Lena Dunham have declared their intention to head north if the former reality star, famous for insulting Muslims and Mexicans, and under the microscope for alleged sexism, reaches top office.

According to one recent Morning Consult/Vox poll, 28 percent of Americans would "likely" consider moving to another country if Trump wins in November. Google said the search "how can I move to Canada?" surged 350 percent on March 1 when Trump won seven Republican state elections.

Money makers on both sides of the border have turned the hype into a savvy marketing tool. "Leaving he country if TRUMP is elected PRESIDENT? Give me a call and LET'S GET YOUR HOME SOLD!!" advertised one US realtor.

A millennial entrepreneur in Texas set up dating site Maple Match promising to help Americans "find the ideal Canadian partner to save them from the unfathomable horror of a Trump presidency."

The site is the brainchild of 25-year-old Joe Goldman, who always wanted to set up a dating site but used the Trump bandwagon to drive publicity.

While actual introductions and dates are a way off, Goldman says that more than 30,000 people hungry for love have already signed up.

"The Donald Trump campaign for president has provided us with an opportunity to make something positive," he told AFP. "But ultimately Maple Match itself is not political. It's about bringing Americans and Canadians together."

#13  If Lena Dunham will move to Canada, I will gladly campaign for Donald Trump. I saw her on a "comedy show." She is painfully ugly and non-funny.

This reminds me of the "Back to Africa" movement during the 70's. Some blacks did move. they discovered the Africans considered them just as "American" as the white visitors.

#8  A real lefty would move to that socialist paradise Venezuela.
Isn't it odd how these dedicated socialists never want to actually live under socialism.

#7  Ditto #4. Most have less than 1000 saved now. O insurance program is killing them. Premiums and huge deductible patient prepay amounts. Sure you can go to the emergency room and wait and get hit with huge medical bill there that they want paid at discharge or when most convenient, say in a week(in full). Now if you don't good luck next time getting in.

#6  I may start my nascent OB movement. Anyone got a TM thingy they can spare. If you do please lend and you will be in on the ground floor of the soon to be edgy Occupy Blighty movement.

#5  MOST of Canada is EMPTY. Lots of room in Canada. Lots of it windswept and sone of it is very cold. You can live on either coast, of course. Speak French ? You will have to learn and its very" clannish" where they speak French. You will definitely need to adapt to THEIR politics ( and learn to speak French ).
Or you can live their way ( not your way ) THEIR way. Its a foreign country, you know and they DO have their way of doing things and don't give a fook for how YOU do things. Enjoy.

Bye.

#4  28 percent of Americans would "likely" consider moving to another country if Trump wins in November.

Rubbish! Recent reporting indicates less than 10% of Americans have enough on-hand emergency cash to pay for a major auto repair. Relo costs money, and lots of it.

#3  Well, if Hillary is elected, a lot of people will be moving too. Of course, moving will be a lot harder---think Berlin Wall.

#2  They never even want to move to Mexico...

#1  Why move to Canada, when they could migrate to more Vibrant! countries?

Given their professed love for the Vibrant!, you'd think they want to finally take the opportunity to take the plunge into Vibrant! nations like Haiti or Libya and other such Vibrant! places.

Becuz Vibrant!, amirite?
