Homeland Security Jeh Johnson: Pub campaign rhetoric on Muslims harms security
2016-03-30
[Reuters] Harsh rhetoric about Muslims by Republican candidates in the U.S. presidential election campaign is undermining national security efforts, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said on Tuesday.

Asked about comments by Republicans Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, Johnson told MSNBC in an interview that singling out a specific community hampers government efforts to build the connections needed to thwart possible attacks.

"Inflammatory comments about patrolling and securing Muslim neighbors or barring Muslims from entering this country, having an immigration policy based on religion, is counterproductive to our homeland security and national security interests," he said.

Johnson's remarks come in the wake of attacks last week in Belgium claimed by Islamic State militants that have stoked security fears across Europe and the West.

#18  At last check, the Euros are demanding their guns back, + aren't taking "no" for an answer from their respective Govts.

Legally or illegally, they're buying 'em.

#16  Spot on Skidmark. When such tactics are employed in non muslim communities we call it Proactive Policing and is regarded as a good thing. ..but nooo not for our muslim neighbors, on no. Once again it's special treatment for them and the rest of us can go to hell... or the morgue. Jeh really doesn't care which.

#15  I'm lost in the rhetoric.
It seems so reasonable to increase the law enforcement mass in areas more prone to unlawfulness.

But as Pan once said, "If they're whacking, I'm packing."

#12  The guy doesn't seem to understand the Muslim mind. Osama Bin Laden I think understood the Muslim mind when he said people follow the strong horse. We were the strong horse for nearly 7 years after Sept 11 and Al Queda was wiped out and Iraq was peaceful. Then we changed course and acted like the weak horse for 8 years and the Islamic Jihadists have had trouble keeping up with the number of volunteers, they've flooded Europe and almost carved out a state in Iraq.

Stop acting weak!

#11  It neeeds to be stressed again. Cruz called for "increased surveillance". Sec. Johnson knows very well currently his department as well as intell and some LE are have targeted surveillance in muslim communities. Once again, Johnson confirms his critics charges that his leading credentials for employment was political suck-up.

It would seem that strict measures like these, once implemented and enforced would give grouped segments a chance to push their natonal identied.
