Obama: Cuba’s Revolution, Like America’s, Was a ‘Liberation Movement’ |
2016-03-23 |
![]() ”Here’s my message to the Cuban government and the Cuban people,” Obama said. ”The ideals that are the starting point for every revolution, America’s revolution, Cuba’s revolution, the liberation movements around the world, these ideals find their truest expression, I believe, in democracy.” “Not because American democracy is perfect,” he emphasized, ”but because we’re not, and we like every country need the space that democracy gives us to change. Many suggested that I come here and ask the people of Cuba to tear something down, but I’m appealing to the young people of Cuba who will lift something up, build something new.” |

#13 Liberation movement? Cuba traded Batista for the Castro brothers. Not such a great trade. Batista was a ruthless gangster who killed opponents for money and power and the Castros were ruthless ideologues who killed opponents for money and power. |

#12 "...a ‘Liberation Movement’" Sort of like the November elections. |

#11 Cubas revolution, like the French revolution was a liberation movement that rapidly turned into a dictatorship and war. |

#10 Maybe he's found a place for his presidential library? Or he'll retire to some quiet little farm just 50 km outside Havana. |

#9 America's Revolution?! Careful buddy. War of Independence. The British government was shopping for mercenaries to augment their Regulars well before Lexington & Concord. |

#8 Obama loves Castro's government and wishes to make the US just like it with Islam in charge. With the statement above everything teh 0ne does makes complete sense. |

#7 Yes, the Cuban revolution liberated many people - from the burden of their lives, their property, and their freedom. Exactly like the American Revolution. |

#4 Many suggested that I come here and ask the people of Cuba to tear something down 'cuz, like, "Tear down this wall" was so ineffective and unmemorable. |

#3 America's War of Independence was to return to a less demanding and authoritarian government that had existed prior to the Seven Years War/French and Indian War. Something like benign neglect. Not to be confused with the opposite of overwhelming and centralized management of life by the Marxists. Nothing at all in common, except in the fantasy world of those Marxists. |

#1 "...but I’m appealing to the young people of Cuba who will lift something up, build something new." Ain't gonna happen. Marx's vision of "continual overthrow" in Communism didn't anticipate all the bad guys in Asia and Latin America, who have many enemies amoungst those killed. Maintain your dictatorship, or you're dead. |
